In Croatian, 'PRAVI' looks simple but has several meanings depending on context. It does not always mean the same thing.

1. “Real/genuine”

Basic meaning: something authentic or truly what it claims to be.

  • pravi dijamant → real diamond

  • pravi prijatelj → true friend

  • prava koža → genuine leather

2. Intensifier (“real/total/complete”)

In everyday speech, pravi often just emotionally strengthens the noun.

  • prava katastrofa → a real disaster

  • pravi kaos → total chaos

  • prava zima → real winter

It adds emotional weight, not literal authenticity.

3. “Typical / the perfect example”

Sometimes, pravi means someone or something is an ideal example of a category.

  • On je pravi profesionalac.→ He’s a real professional.

  • To je prava dalmatinska konoba.→ That’s a proper Dalmatian tavern.

4. “Correct/right” (opposite of wrong)

In some contexts, pravi means correct.

  • pravo mjesto → the right place

  • pravo vrijeme → the right time

  • pravi odgovor → the correct answer
